Scary Movies

Lately, we've been watching too many thriller, scary movies. I guess this is what you called facing your fears. I'm kinda getting used to it. Though the screaming, palpitation of the heart and sleeping at night with the lights on are kind of hard to get used to. Last week we watched "The Mist" which is base from Stephen King's novel. The story is just wonderful, hair rising scary. Well, I'm that easy to get scared so don't rely on me when it comes to scary movies =) I just hate the ending part. I don't know much about Stephen King's novels and I didn't dare read one since watching some of the movies based on his novels. Now right this very moment, while my heart's thumping really hard, we're watching "1408". So many curses I'm going to say tonight. Eeeeeeeeeeeek. Now that I don't have anything to read since I've finished "New Moon" book 2 of twilight. Goosebumps. My gosh!

Into the Wild

I am currently reading the book "Into the Wild". This has been shown in the cinema and it's already out on DVDs and VCDs. Havent finished reading the book yet so I cannot give you any review. But first chapter already hit me as I wasn't aware of the story. Hehehe I always buy books because of only three reasons - the novel is written by the famous author I know, recommended by a friend or it's on the best seller shelf of the bookstores I frequent. And no, I don't read much that back part of the book before I buy it to keep the element of surprise. :D Anyway, all I know about this book when I first started it was that there was this guy who abandoned all his belongings, gave all his money to charity and wander off to travel. I didn't know he died just four months after that. :( It was really sad for me. He was still young and just graduated with honors who came from a well-off family but choose to live a nomad life. I thought it was a stupid thing to do to choose a decision in your life putting yourself at risk. I thought at first that if I were to have that life he had, I would certainly be in law school, graduate with honors and do pro bono cases or spend my remaining time helping out on some refugee camps who were always short of people and money to help them with. But that's just me. And I'm not sure about what I just said because I might be doing something differently with that life.

People's reactions are subjective. We think differently when we are out of the box and retort to things otherwise when we are on that certain spot. It's like that story of the three men who were given each a bar of gold - one buried it in case he needed it, one spend it like there's no tomorrow and one who took the risk of using the gold and invest it and made it earn. We were told a lot of times how the latter is better than the two. Some of us may agree since it is the logical thing to do. But we are who we are because of the decisions we made in our life. We don't let other people run our own life just because they think sensibly and their life is better than ours. We might follow their footsteps and live their life but still feels miserable in the end. It is your life after all. No matter what others may think, it will still be your happiness and the gratification you will achieve. In a simple and shallow explanation, it's like buying that stunning dress worn by a famous actress or models we just read from a magazine and ends up looking stupid. There were finer things in this world that suits exactly of who you are and your personality and ends up feeling total bliss even in that cheap dress. Now, I think I better get back to my reading. :D

The Dark Knight

With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

I was a little subdued watching "The Dark Knight" as I've never been a follower or fan of Batman though I've seen all of it. I just can't seem to remember much of the story though. But I'll say it was the BEST batman ever. Or the BEST movie I've seen this year. Heath was really scary and the story seem realistic. I was scared all throughout the movie. Better watch it!

Made of Honor

Tom Bailey is in love with his best friend Claire. But Tom has a fear of commitment and refuses to admit the obvious--he should propose to Claire before she finds a less procrastinating suitor. When Colin, a rich Scotsman sweeps Claire off her feet and asks for her handin marriage, Tom must witness her unquestioned happiness up close and personal--because she's chosen him to be her Maid Of Honor.

Iron Man

Been a long time since we last watch a movie. Well, a month of not watching a movie is already a long time for us. And it feels good to do something you love after a long time of not doing it. Anyway, yesterday's labor day so it's a holiday and we spent most part of our day lazying around the house and watched "IRONMAN", dinner at "Jologz" after. Sarap! Asteeg yung movie. Galing galing. I wonder how many sleepless nights the animators and creative directors spent during those times they were still establishing the movie. Sometimes movies like these are worth watching for and you know your money doesn't just go to waste. Worth every cents we spent. And i looooveee Robert Downey here. Well, if you haven't watched it, go online now and buy your tickets! In one of the trailers before the movie starts, I was so sad that Eric Bana is not the Incredible Hulk anymore :(

For years kasi, I've been haunted with that same question that Juno asked her dad. I, too, was wonderin' why can't two people just stay in love forever? And not having a divorce after years of being together and suddenly realizing you're "not in love" anymore with the other person whom you've sworn to love till death do you part. Or finding yourself falling for another and then putting all the blame on your broken-hearted wife or husband or anyone or anything but yourself. Or suddenly realizing that you still have a lot of things on your life that you wanted to do on your own. I don't understand why things get so complicated when it comes to relationships and love. And I know that no matter how hard I tried not to be in that kind of situation, it will happen and only God knows when. Maybe this phase in life is something that everyone must go through. That's why I was wonderin why can't we just skip this phase and stay in love forever and totally eradicate the notion of having a divorce so you can do things in your own terms? Life and relationship and love were not the ones that are complicated. Individuals are.

After watching Juno last night, I guess the story crawled up into my skin. I dreamt of the first person that made me doubt about love and its complexities. Of how in that dream he was trying so hard to make it all up to us. I woke up trying to find the relevance of that reverie and found it easier to ignore it than think about it all day. Huwala lang.

It's not about laying judgment on those who have done it or playing the empathy game to those who have been hurt. It's about finding the answer to my 15 year old question and finding the ways of avoiding history repeats itself at least for this part. But I guess, sometimes these things can't be avoided. At least for now, it's calming to think that for 9 years, and after that, whatever happens, I am still and will always be thankful that it may or may not happen to me, I know that God gave me that someone worth taking that risk for. And one of us may stray along the way, which I really hope not, I guess the best thing to do for now is to live each day as if you're just starting to get to know each other. Finding love and be hurt is frightening. But finding love alone is exhilarating. So yeah, you may get hurt, but at least find someone really worth taking that risk for.

Juno

Juno is a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker. With the help of her hot best friend Leah, Juno finds her unborn child a "perfect" set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa, longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the total support of her parents as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs.

my thoughts
When it comes to rating - may it be a movie or book - I guess it all comes down to that saying "to each his own". Some things may be good for others but it doesnt work for me and vice versa. When I saw Juno on the movie house days before, i wasn't that interested as I've read some reviews that it wasn't good. But oscars changed my mind. So we did watched it.

First, Ellen Page was so natural and her role was so her age and totally different from her role in Narnia or X-Men. Although, in all movies she did well. It's so hard not to shed a tear in this movie, at least for me. Guess being emotional in certain part of your life makes you vulnerable to movies like this which maybe to some are just an ordinary story. I just like the part where Juno asked her dad, "Dad, why can't two people just stay in love forever?". Her dad's reply is a bulls-eye. Not on exact wordings coz I really cant remember them hehehe but a bit of his explanation was this. It will never happen for people to stay in love forever but it's best if you find the right one worth taking that risk for. Winner si dad-ee!

Jumper

A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.


Watched it last night at The Grand Cathay at 11.15pm. Funny, I just realized it was "anakin" who's playing the david as a jumper at the last part where he called diane lane mom hihihi. Better watch it! I had a feeling now what would they be doing for the 2nd book of the Golden Compass :)

If you had this kind of power, which place would you "jump" in first? Me? Of course, Europe where else???

Stardust

Since there's no open mall to go to, we stayed home the whole day watching movies and eating and lazying around. And I finally saw Stardust after days and days of asking friends if they have the movie or asking the lady from Gramophone if it's already on sale. I've read the book since day 1 it was shown in the movies. I've thought of trying to read the book first and when we decided to watch it, it was already over and I've forgotten about it until rommel told me he had watched it in the plane and that it was really good. So that kept me on the lookout for the movie and bless my housemate for giving me this site.

The movie is really really good though nothing will change how much I love the book it’s based on. And now I can really say that the movie is really different from the book. An adaptation of the stardust book if I may say. It's like having one story with two different twist.

If you have watched the movie and haven't read the book then go on read this post. But if you haven't, you may stop now.

Babylon candle wasn't given to Tristan by his mother along with the letter and he didn't met Yvaine by "falling" from the sky literally. He walk across the wall with the help of his father. Robert de Niro's character wasn't in the book at all though a captain and a ship was mentioned but not of a funny character as de Niro's. He was hilarious and I really love him! Septimus or the 7th prince didn't died the way he died in the movie, he was bitten by the witch's snake when he was trying to burned down her house. The arrival of the unicorn and how it died was also different. Lastly, the last part of the movie where Tristan return to his town was really not the way the book tells it.

Both the movie and the book are good and comparing it is really difficult. It's both a masterpiece. Eye-Luv-It! Neil Gaiman is truly a master of his work. I think everyone should WATCH the movie and READ the book.

Oh, and by the way, i sooooooo love the soundtrack. Rule the World by Take that. Rommel does too. He can now play it in his guitar. Lovely!

The Final Cut

We rented this movie from Gramophone in Cathay and it was really a good movie though I think may be far from reality. I remember last time when I told rommel while we were in a vacation in another part of the globe, that if we could only tap the side of our eyes and it will automatically record all those things that you see. Hmmm, well this movie is somewhat similar though this you are not given a choice to choose which part in your life you wanted to record. Someone will be doing it for you only after your death.

The Last Mimzy

Last night, I return all those dvds that bebe and i borrowed last saturday and was tempted to borrow another. And of those was the "Last Mimzy". I don't buy the story but the characters are really good especially that adorable little girl. The little girl and his brother found a box in the shore near their home and the objects that they found gave them both some magical powers. One of the objects included a stuffed bunny rabbit called mimzy who apparently can communicate with the little girl. Did I mentioned how pretty and cute she was? Mom and Dads, let your kids watch this. I bet you'll enjoy it more than them hehehe.

Reservation Road

We were suppose to watch "National Treasure" but end up watching "Reservation Road". Sadness ever! Literally tulo ang luha ko. Anyway, ffg read the book already long time ago and surprisingly I haven't. So now, this book will be next on my list. Panoorin nyo, kaiyak talaga.

Last Sunday, I forgot my book "Cross" by James Patterson at the church. So much hoping to get it back on Sunday :( I haven't finish the book yet...

At lunch time, I was so happy to get hold of the trilogy of Phil Pullman's Dark Materials. All three of them for only $5 each! Weeee. So happy. Btw, book 1 of this was the Golden Compass the movie.

3rd Sat of Dec

I was able to accomplished one page for today for our wedding album. Hirap pala magisip ng design for the pages. I can't call it scrapbooking because I felt like it was far from the beauty of what the real scrapbookers do :) More of a scrap if I may say so.

We went out nearly night time after the big baby's nap time. Went to Dhoby Gaut and watched "The Golden Compass". It was alright. Actually, I was planning to buy the trilogy book as some terms made no sense to me in the movie as they were'nt explained elaborately. Well, the truth is my comprehension is better in reading than watching it :). It's much better though if I've watched it and read it as it will give justification to where my imagination brought me. I like the part where in the parallel world, human souls take the form of animal companions called daemons. And maybe this is why critics were asking people not to patronize the movie. In my own opinion, they were just making the viewers more curious and end up watching it than not. That part of the story is the imagination of the writer and it's good. As it makes you venture out of the ordinary and usual stories. My take is DaVinci code movie is much worse than this one as this movie didn't mention anything blasphemous. Well, that's my take. And i think, if you're going to watch it with your kids, the important thing is, my guess as I don't have any kid of my own yet, to tell them apart which one should be taken in real life and which one should be left like one of the stories in the children's books they've read. In this world, I believe that every writer have the right to think of thousand ways to make each of their masterpiece different from the other and make it "interesting" for others to read. And I believe that we were born to have our own autonomy to deem what is right from wrong and what is real from fabrication. And no movie or book or person can make us change from what we've grown to believe in. =)

After the movie, I read my messages. I was so thrilled to received one from Itay Buru saying Inay Anik already gave birth! Yipee. We went to spotlight and bought the album for the pages i was doing hehehe.

We went to Que Pasa in somerset afterwards. It's been a long time since we last set foot here. On our way there, I was drooling on the thought of my favorite dish from their menu, beef stew with crunchy bread! And we were so devastated to know that beef stew have been off their list for two months now. So sad! =( When I asked why the girl why, she doesn't have any idea =( But we still did stay. Good thing pizza margherita's still on the menu. And it was the first time *i think*, i ordered chicken wings in Que Pasa. I was used to having it at the nearby ICB hehehe and gulped it down with a bottle of beer and not with a glass of wine. I had red and ffg had white. While finishing it all up, we still can't believe what happened to Mr. Beef stew. *sigh*

We reached home past midnight. I slept around 4 in the morning after I was done with the page I did for little Alexi.

Emote ako :( Miss ko tuloy lalo family ko hehe pero at least I have something that will remind me we had a lot of those good times and this is one of them. Tenchu po sobra mareng mami s! The Simpsons

Homer Simpson must save the world from a catastrophe he himself created. First scene pa lang, it was soooooo funny na. Though, I admit that I hate watching itchy and scratchy scenes because I hate gory stuff and I don't find it funny when a head is being literally ripped off. And yes, even if it's in cartoons. BUT, I find Simpsons so funny. It eases my tension just laughing and laughing. Of course, it's not just Homer's stupidity that's making it a blast, each character contributes to the hit of the show. Each have something uniquely different and funny. Don't worry, there's nothing cheesy I can relate it to a real life. Haven't met any family like that. Wonder how it feels to know someone who is a good wife with a brilliant daughter like Liza, a crazy, attention seeker son like Bart, a baby who does crawl and shows in her own little ways that she's smart but never said a word for years that I've been following this show, and a can't-find-anything-good husband like homer. Or a neighbour like the flanders and a community like springfield with lots of crazy people. I don't know why it's so funny. You have to find out for yourself to fully appreciate it. What's making it funny and all. I was sooooo glad that I share the same interest with Rommel and what's more with my friends Joey and Halil.

Die Hard 4.0

On the July 4th holiday, an attack on the vulnerable United States infrastructure begins to shut down the entire nation. The mysterious figure behind the scheme has figured out every modern angle -- but he never figured on an old-school "analog" fly in the "digital" ointment: John McClane. No mask. No cape. No problem. Yippie kai yay. Oooohhhh, I so loved Bruce Willis. No matter how good or not so good the movies is, as long as it's his movie, I will definitely watch it. Well, aside from the fact that both me and ffg were solid movie addictus. Justin Long did a pretty good job being funny and scared at the same time. He's perfectly fit for the role and he's really adorable. Saw him first at the TV series, Ed, Crossroads and Jeepers Creepers. I love Maggie Q here. She's so pretty and oh so sexy. But i'm just beginning to get tired of hollywood films with asian women who were mostly sexy and pretty and knows how to kick some ass and die in the end. Just my two cents hehehe.

The pursuit of Happyness

We had a voucher for two tickets at Cathay Cinema stashed for some time now. Well, two weeks hehehe. So last night we used it to watch The Pursuit of Happyness. Shempre pa as expected, it will be a miracle if I got out of a sad movie without crying. It was a good movie that could make you laugh, cry and think how important it is to be determined and persevere happiness in life even if it looks so impossible to achieve. This is a true story of Christopher Gardner who struggles to make ends meet. Watch it na lang. It also shows how someone could be so passionate about getting things way impossible to reach for his son. Kaiyak talaga :(

Life is really difficult. For each day, you'll find a dilemma and make things work but yes, it always has been better and you were able to get few things done. Though there were some that you can't help but let go because it's not meant to happen, but in the end you tend to forgot about it after few months. With God's help and the love you have for your family. Being weak in the midst of it doesn't mean you're weak. Just never learn to give up. *san nanggaling yun?*

Ok back to the movie, Will smith's real-life son, Jayden is adorable :) He can act at a young age. Cutie talaga :) And he act so natural.

The pursuit of Happyness was mispelled intentionally. It was seen from Chris Gardner's son's day care to which the teacher explained that it was a poster made by the children.
Teacher: The most important thing is the real happiness students feel while creating the poster, never mind the spelling. That, inspires Chris Gardner to pursuit the happiness.


Today's High: everything is possible. just be ready for the consequences bec there are times that it's really not meant to be

The Departed

Due to stress in the office, I asked bebe if we could watch a movie. This is my medicine when im in stress or feeling sad or wala lang hehehe. Bebit were kind enough to text me if I want to join the group because they planned on watching "Sukob" which I decline as fast as my eyes blink. I really hate horror movies. But Im proud that tagalog movies made it here in singapore. You can't just force me to watch it - yes, kahit pa free! We watched The Departed and I'll say that this is one of the great movies that I really can recommend to all my friends though not for the faint of heart. I don't exactly know how to tell how good a movie is without telling the story so let me just say that this is something worth every cent of what you've paid. Even for that popcorn and hotdog. I literally had asthma attack after the movie. Not exaggerating. Big stars are in it - Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin - and they all did a very good convincing job in portraying their roles. Especially Jack Nicholson. This is one movie that I'll be watching over and over again - after checking my pulse and heart rate first. Oh, by the way, did I mention that this was co-produce by Brad Pitt? *drool* So get up on your ass now and buy yourself a ticket and watch it! I am really glad how we both love watching movies. Wag lang talaga horror! 'Love you man!
